Declare Ramsethu as National Heritage Site: Singhal
Bangalore, Jan 24 (UNI) Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) today strongly demanded the Union government to declare Ramasethu as National Monument and Heritage Site.
Addressing the press here, VHP International President Ashok Singhal accused the UPA Government of trying to demolish the Ramasethu and hurting the feelings of Hindus and urged it to declare the structure as a National Monument and Heritage site.
Mr Singhal also wanted the Centre to declare Rameswaram in Tamil Nadu, the starting point of the Adam Bridge, as a 'Place Sacred for Hindus.'' The VHP would undertake a nation-wide agitation if the UPA government failed to accept the demands, he added.
Objecting to the manner in which the Ramsethu issue was handled by the UPA government, Mr Singhal charged ''they have rendered a great insult to the entire country by ridiculing the belief of crores of Hindus.'' Urging the UPA government to abandon the project, Mr Singhal threatened to intensify its nation-wide agitation if the Centre failed concede the demand.
