V P Singh should be given Bharat Ratna: social organisation
Mumbai, Jan 23 (UNI) The list of aspirants for the country's apex civilian award 'Bharat Ratna' is getting longer and longer as Uttar Bharatiya Mitra Mandal, a local social organisation, today demanded the award for former Prime Minister Vishwanath Pratap Singh.
Hailing Mr Singh as the 'architect' in getting social justice to backward classes, which constitute half of India's population, the organisation said the former PM truly deserves the prestigious award.
''With his commitment to work towards most neglected classes of the country, Mr Singh played the sheet-anchor role in implementation of the Mandal Commission recommendations. We demand that the 'Bharat Ratna' should be conferred to him,'' the Mandal said.
