Tradebody opposes amendment to APMC Act

Bangalore, Jan 23 (UNI) The Federation of Karnataka Chamber of Commerce and Industry (FKCCI), the apex body of traders organisations in the state, today urged the Governor Rameshwar Thakur to defer implementation of the amended Agriculture Produce Marketing Committee (APMC) Act till popular government was installed.

Addressing newsmen here, FKCCI Trade and APMC President Ramesh Chandra Lahoti said that the state government has invited objections from the public on the proposed APMC amended act before put into force, which allows multi-national companies enter into agri-business directly.

Strongly opposing the government's attempts to implement the amended act, which was stoutly opposed by Farmers organisations, traders and agriculture labour bodies in the past, Mr Lahoti alleged that the government seems to succumbing to the pressure of the vested interests which were behind the move.
