TN Govt seeks immediate disbursal of Central flood relief
Chennai, Jan 23 (UNI) The Tamil Nadu Government today urged the Centre to immediately provide the required financial assistance for taking up comprehensive relief works in the flood-hit areas of the state, based on the report of the Central team.
Delivering his customary address to the State Assembly, he said last month's heavy rain and floods had not only led to loss of several lives, but also caused widespread damage to public properties like roads, tanks and buildings, and affected crops in several parts of the state.
The damage was to the tune of Rs 1,510 crore as per initial estimates and the state government had allotted Rs 200 crore to undertake immedite flood relief works in the affected areas.
The state had submitted a detailed memorandum to the Union Government, seeking financial assistance, and the Central team had visited the affected districts and assessed the damage.
