Shimla Motorcycle Challenge from January 30
Shimla, Jan 23 (UNI) Shimla Motorcycle Challenge 2008, the first of its kind in Himachal Pradesh, is being held from January 27.
Talking to mediapersons here, organising committee president Manoj Biswas said in all six events would be held throughout the year and first event of the series would start on January 27, while the final race would be held on November 9.
He said about 7.7 km of long stretch of circular road of the capital, encompassing thrusting fusion of uphill detritus and downhill tarmac, would pose a challenge for bikers.
''Every rider will get three laps on track from a halt start, with fastest lap time in any lap deciding the winner.'' Mr Biswas said the championship envisages a series of six single day events that would be held on second Sunday of alternate months.
Riders were expected to accumulate high points in every race with excellent score at the end of season will automatically emerge as ''Shimla Motorcycle Champion,'' he said.
He said the Department of Youth Services and Sports, Government of Himachal Pradesh and the Indian Oil Corporation (IOC) have agreed to support the event.
