Punjab: Order to prevent abandoning of foetuses

Chandigarh, Jan 22: In view of recovery of certain foetuses and infants from garbage in several cities, the Chandigarh Administration today issued an order to prevent such occurrences.

Under the order, issued by Home Secretary Krishna Mohan, all pregnant women will be motivated to get themselves registered with the nearest health centre/hospital.

All ANMs/LHVs/doctors, attending pregnant women, should maintain their records and keep track of their pregnancy till delivery and if there is a case of abortion, they should bring the same to the notice of appropriate authority.

All ultrasound centres/ clinics/ hospitals should strictly adhere to the provisions of the PNDT/ MTP Act, the order said.

Police will inform the appropriate authority if they found any foetus/infant abandoned. These foetus in fant would be sent for the DNA test, in order to correlate with the women at a later stage, if found suspicious of having aborted.
