NLSA organising conclave of NE states to provide justice to women
New Delhi, Jan 22 (UNI) The National Legal Services Authority (NLSA), in a bid to provide legal justice to women of the North Eastern region, is organising a 9-day national conclave of North Eastern (NE) states from February 17, here.
According to a Manipur Information Center release issued today, the conclave will invite participation of all eight states of the North Eastern region in various events like orientation on access to justice, sensitisation workshop/interactive session on legal and human rights, skit and popular social theatre on legal and human rights, quiz on legal rights of citizens and platinum session on the conclave's resolutions and recommendations.
The conclave is expected to be visited by the President, Vice-President, Prime Minister and Chief Justice of India besides the Chief Ministers and Chief Justices of the states concerned, Union Minister of Development of the North Eastern region and other dignitaries, the National Advisor of NLSA, Sreerupa Mitra Chaudhury said.
She said that apart from academic sessions, there will be cultural evenings and food and handicraft stalls of the region during the event. February 22 will be the Day of Manipur at the conclave.
For successful conduct of the event, a meeting of the representatives of the North East states was held in the office of the National Advisor of the NLSA.
The NLSA, a central nodal agency of the Central government is responsible for development of policy and implementation of free legal aid programmes in the country for the weaker sections. The Authority is chaired by the Chief Justice of India and hence, there cannot be a better institutional option to organise and host such an important conclave on the access to justice, Ms Mitra Chaudhury added.
