Three arrested, 9.5 KG charas seized in Jammu

Jammu, Jan 21 (UNI) Three people were arrested and 9.5 kilograms of 'charas' was recovered from their possession in Jammu and Kashmir, official sources said today.

The police nabbed two smugglers when they were transporting nine kilograms of charas from Billawar area in Kathua district to Jammu last evening, sources said.

''A nakka was laid to trap the accused who had stolen away a four wheeler from the area and during checking, two persons travelling with two different bags were halted for frisking,'' sources told UNI.

However, the smugglers tried to escape from the police but were nabbed after a chase. Nine kilograms of charas was found in their bags and both of them were taken into custody.

The smugglers were identified as Chain Singh, resident of Basohli and Kali Dass, resident of Bani, in Kathua district.

In another incident, police seized 460 grams of charas from the possession of one Makhan Singh, resident of Jallandhar, who was intercepted by police team during checking near Chanderkot in Doda district on Jammu-Srinagar National Highway.

He was taken into custody and a case was registered against him under the NDPS act.
