MPHC notice to MCI
Jabalpur, Jan 21 (UNI) The Madhya Pradesh High Court has issued notices to the Medical Council of India and others in a case of giving admission to a student on a ''payment seat'' at a private medical college here.
Annual fees for a payment seat are Rs 1.50 lakh as opposed to Rs 35,000 for a ''free seat''.
While hearing a plea by Shahdol's Vivek Khare on Friday, justices Deepak Mishra and Satishchandra Mishra also issued notices to the Secretary (Medical Education) and Gandhi Medical College and set January 23 as the final date for hearing. Mr Khare was given admission in 2003-04.
''The Supreme Court ruled in 2002 that payment seats should be done away with in private medical, engineering and veterinary colleges,'' petitioner's counsel Aditya Sanghi said.
