Moharram clash in UP, policeman among 7 wounded
Lucknow, Jan 20 (UNI) Almost seven people, including a policeman, were wounded, when police fired teargas shells and resorted to lathicharge to disperse a violent mob during the Tazia procession in Lakhimpur district today.
The trouble started, when people, belonging to two sects of Muslims, clashed over the procession's route at village Agar Bujurg in Sardhan area.
The situation worsened when the mob started pelting stones at police.
Seeing the situation getting out of control, police fired in the air and lathicharged the mob.
Police in strength had been garrisoned in the area to prevent fresh violence.
According to reports, Moharram procession remained stranded for a couple of hours in Sultanpur, following a minor dispute.
In Kaushambi, brick batting wounded two persons after some groups clashed during the procession.
