Thiruvananthapuram, Jan 21: Kerala has been experiencing acute shortage of milk due to decrease in domestic production, MILMA Chairman P T Gopala Kurup said today.

Talking to mediapersons here, Mr Kurup said the government has to give better prices and more benefits to dairy farmers if milk production is to be increased.

Since MILMA was running at a loss with accumulated deficit of Rs 30 crore, it had asked the government to release Rs 17 crore to the society, which was suffering a daily loss to the tune of Rs 6 lakh.

Mr Kurup further said the society had submitted its request to the government for increasing the price of milk to Rs 20 per litre or giving subsidy to save it.
