Dreaded political killer from Bangladesh arrested

Puri, Jan 21 (UNI) Arman Aslam, a citizen of Bangladesh, who had masterminded killing of many important political leaders of his country was arrested today under Section 14, Foreigners Act, from a luxury hotel here and remanded to judicial custody.

Puri Superintendent of Police (SP) Asit Panigrahi told newspersons here that the killer was involved in the murder of leaders like Murg Milan, Sagir Ahmmed, a ruling party leader, and Hazibur Rahman, the private secretary of former Bangladesh Prime Minister Begum Khalida Zia.

Sources said Aslam, a notorious political killer, figured among the top ten most-wanted criminals of Bangladesh. He was arrested from a luxury hotel where he had been staying for last eight months.

Police said the arrested had also booked rooms in another hotel of the city and had a rented accommodation in Maitry Vihar of hubaneswar where he had stayed when he went into hiding for days.

The manager of the hotel was suspicious over the activities of Aslam and informed the SP when the killer used firearms during the December 31 celebrations.

The SP had deployed plain clothes policemen to keep a vigil on his activities.
