Councillors boycott training programme

Puducherry,Jan 21: Commune panchayat councillors today staged a boycott of a training programme organised for them by the District and Rural Development Agency (DRDA).

The Puducherry administration had decided to implement the 'Food for Work' Scheme here from April one and training on this scheme was given to the legislators recently. On similar lines, a programme was arranged today in which 41 councillors attended. A pamphlet describing the salient featuers of the scheme was circulated among them.

When the councillors found they had no role to play in the scheme, they questioned the officials about the purpose of the training. The councillors were informed the scheme would be implemented through the village panchayat and the councillors could supervise it.

Following this, they entered into a wordly duel with the DRDA officials and staged a boycott of the programme.
