Two get life term for killing journalist
Kaithal, Jan 20 (UNI) A local court has sentenced two people to life imprisonment in the sensational murder case of a local journalist four years ago.
Aditional Sessions Judge Subhash Goel sent Surinder Geong and Surinder Pahalwan, to life imprisonment and slapped a fine of Rs one lakh each for killing journalist Parmanand Goel in September 2003 under section 302 of the IPC.
The judge sentenced the third convict, Umesh, to rigorous imprisonment of four years and a fine of Rs 5000 under section 212 of the IPC.
Parmanand Goel, a corresondent for a hindi daily, was murdered by three people at his residence near the New Grain Market here on September 18, 2003.
The gang, headed by Geong had demanded a Rs 30 lakh from Goel and on his refusal them murdered him.
As many as 29 cases of murder, kidnapping, extortion, robbery and dacoity are still pending against Geong. Umesh has been convicted for harbouring the murderers.
