Polio programme-2008 launched in Arunachal

Itanagar, Jan 20 (UNI) The Intensive Pulse Polio Immunization(IPPI) Programme,2008 has started in Arunachal Pradesh after Chief Minister Dorjee Khandu administered polio drops to two infants at his office yesterday.

Official sources said here today that Mr Khandu also appealed to all the people to bring their children to the nearest polio booth on January 20 and February 24.

He further urged the media to act as moderator in publicising the programme for its cent per cent success and assist the concerned department for ensuring a polio-free state, informed official sources.

He also informed that there was not a single case of polio since last twenty years, he claimed and appreciated the health department for its effort to check the disorder.

While observing that the 756 polio cases detected in the country, mostly in Uttar Pradesh and Bihar, it might pave the way for every possibility of regaining the disease in the state as a large chunk of population from these states were in Arunachal, Mr Khandu.

He also sought cooperation from all section of the society to maintain the 'polio-free' status of this hilly state by volunteering to get all children administered polio drops.

Meanwhile, the health department had established more than 2,565 polio booths in the state to immunize around 1,93,000 children during the two round of the programme, sources added.
