Jharkhand's student shot dead in US

Jamshedpur, Jan 20 (UNI) Abhijit Mahto, an engineering student and resident of Gamharia near here, was shot dead by miscreants at Durham in United States last Friday.

Abhijit (29), a student of Duke University, was doing his PhD in Computer Science since the last two years, family sources said.

The cause of murder was not known, the sources added.

Abhijit had been a student of Jadavpur university in Kolkata and then did his B Tech from Kanpur IIT before going to the US for higher studies.

His father Sitaram Mahto, a retired Post and Telegraph employee received the news today and family members were unconsolable after hearing the news.

Mr Mahto said a post mortem would be conducted tomorrow and they would try to bring the body back to the country. He has also contacted the External Affairs Ministry to speed up the process of bringing the body home, the source said.
