Four militant groups call Republic day boycott

Guwahati, Jan 20 (UNI) Altogether four banned militant organisations in the Northeastern region today gave a Republic Day boycott call.

The United Liberation Front of Assam (ULFA), Kamatapur Liberation Organisation (KLO), Tripura People's Democratic Front (TPDF) and Manipur Peoples Liberation Front (MPLF) had called for a boycott of the Republic Day celebrations in the region.

Issuing a joint statement, the four organisations reiterated their annual boycott call as well as their opposition to the Union Government's rule.

Meanwhile, the security forces stepped up patrolling measures throughout the NE and Assam.

Official sources said about a dozen bombs were recovered during the past one week, many of which were meant to be exploded in the run up to the Republic Day celebrations.

Special security arrangements were being made at the airports of the region as many of them were prone to militant attacks and hijack attempts.
