Congress favours Poorvanchal's separation

Jaunpur, Jan 20 (UNI) Senior Congress leader and Union Minister of State for Home Kripa Shankar Singh today said the separation of drought hit Poorvanchal was necessary for its development.

'' Since Independence, Poorvanchal has not developed...therefore, it should be made a separate state,'' Mr Singh said addressing media here.

''If the state government passes a proposal in this regard, then I will meet Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh and Congress chief Sonia Gandhi and make all efforts to get it passed from the Parliament,'' he added.
