Teacher beats mentally-retarded student

Nashik, Jan 19 (UNI) A mentally-retarded child was beaten up by a teacher at the CIDCO locality of the city.

A complaint in this regard has been filed by the father of the child.

Mr Vitthal Patil, in his complaint, alleged that Dhamne, the teacher at the Prabodhini Vidyala -- a school for mentally-retarded children -- had beaten up his 13-year-old son Dhananjay yesterday.

Mr Patil alleged that his son was beaten up with an iron scale since the boy had not allowed the teacher to pass down a staircase in the school.

The boy did not narrate the incident to his parents, but fell ill soon after. The boy had to be admitted to the district civil hospital. It was, then, that the matter came to light.

This is the second such incident in this district in recent times. On January 15, a lady teacher in Malegaon, who is reported to be mentally ill, had attacked a seven-year-old student with a knife and had injured the boy severely.
