Barrackpore, Jan 19 (UNI) The Ramakrishna Sangha Adyapitha today organised a two-day seminar on ''Universal Brotherhood and Harmony of All Religions'' at its headquarters at Dakshineshwar in North 24 Parganas.

The seminar was organised on the occasion of the 117th birth anniversary of the Sangha founder and a Ramakrishna disciple Annada Thakur.

The speakers at the seminar included West Bengal Fire Services Minister Pratim Chattopadhyay, state Human Rights Commission and former Chief Justice of Calcutta High court Shyamal Sen and state Education Secretary Swapan Sarkar, among others.

Addressing the gathering, Mr Chattopadhyay observed that serving the people, particularly the poor sections of the socety, should be the motto of every person.

''Religion or caste should not be the criteria for rendering any service to the people as taught by Ramakrishna Paramhansa and his great disciple Swami Vivekananda,'' he said.

Mr Sen observed that only if good sense prevailed among the people, it could promote peace throughout the world.

He advocated to adopt the path of India's spiritual culture and heritage to achieve universal brotherhood and world peace.

On the occasion of Annada Thakur's birth anniversary, the Sangha also distributed food, clothing and blankets amongst the people.
