Jaipur, Jan 19 (UNI) The All India Gujjar Arakshan Sangharsh Samiti today withdrew its proposed Mahapadav (large sit-in), which was decided to be held here on January 21.
Under pressure from Rajasthan government's crackdown on its leaders and contempt notice by the High Court, the rebel Gujjar leaders, led by expelled BJP MLAs Prahlad Gunjal, Attar Singh Badana and Samiti Chief patron Col Kirori Singh Bainsala, have decided to postpone their proposed 'Mahapadav' by 10 days.
A spokesman for the organisation said the decision had been taken on the intervention of BJP MP Vishwendra Singh.
''The BJP MP, representing Bharatpur, has demanded 10 days to find an amicable settlement on the Gujjars' demand for reservation under the Scheduled Tribe (ST) status to postpone the sit-in by 10 days'', he added.
Meanwhile, the Gujjar Arakshan Sangarsh Samiti, led by Col Kirori Singh Bainsala, also postponed their proposed blockade of the Jaipur-Agra National Highway (NH) on January 21. Col Bainsala said he would sit on an indefinite hunger strike from tomorrow at Hindon in Karoli district to press their demand for inclusion of Gujjars in the ST.
