Bomb making unit owned by PMK leader unearthed

Madurai, Jan 19: The Tamil Nadu police have unearthed a bomb making unit allegedly functioning at a farm house owned by a local PMK leader and arrested two people in this connection.

After an alert by a revenue official and an anonymous letter that a blast had occurred at the farm house recently, police raided the premises yesterday and seized chemicals like red phosphorus, sulphur and potassium chlorate phosporous used for making bombs.

Police arrested two people, who were allegedly injured in the blast and taking treatment secretly inside the premises.

They were identified as Periasamy (23) and Asaithambi (20).

Deputy Superintendent of Police A Ganesan, who led the police team, said the farm house is owned by Mr Ilanchezhian, PMK Councillor of Aviniyapuram Municipality, who was absconding along with his brother.

The arrested duo confessed to the police that they were injured while making country-bombs. They claimed that they were making the explosives for the purpose of digging a well. However, there was no trace of any well there, police added.
