Al-Qaeda bomb threat keeps police on tenterhooks

Chennai, Jan 19: Police and bomb detection squad personnels went into a tizzy following an anonymous letter that bombs, planted by the Al-Qaeda outfit, would explode at seven places in the city today.

The letter received by the Mylapore police station last evening, said bombs would explode at Madras High Court complex, Egmore Central station, Apollo Hospitals, Saravana Stores, two temples and at a shopping Mall.

With bomb detection squad personnel, police made a thorough search of the shopping mall, but no explosives were found. By the time police completed the searches, officials found the letter written from Mylapore was by one Magesh, a mentally deranged man.

Police have secured him for interrogation. Not to take any chances, police have beefed up security in various parts of the city.
