Villagers on rampage, set fire to police station

Chittoor, Jan 17 (UNI) The villagers of Peddapalayam in Nellore district went on a rampage and set fire to a police station following the death of a 17-year-old boy, who fell into a well while being chased by police here today.

Police said as many as 1000 villagers observed a road blockade in front of the B N Kandrika mandal police station, protesting and demanding action against the police personnel involved in the boy's death.

As the situation worsened, the irate villagers stormed into the station and set the station on fire.

The furniture and all documents were charred to ashes.

The Jeep of Circle Inspector, who rushed to the spot on information, was also set on fire by the irate villagers.

Pentaiah fell into the well and died when police raided a 'cock fight' venue, where he was betting, police added.
