Shimla, Jan 17 (UNI) Reaching late in offices, Himachal Pradesh state electricity Board (HPSEB) officials may get in big trouble.
The shocking facts came to light during the surprise checking by a team of six officers at HPSEB office located at KumarHouse was that as many as 89 officials including officers and other employees were found to be late than the scheduled time of 10 o'clock.
In a bid to nail down the tendency of coming late to the office that apparently encourages indiscipline at the government offices, the state government had earlier issued directions to various departments to ensure that administrative working was streamlined and made more efficient.
In this chain the six-member team carried out surprise checking at different entrances of the office after 10.10 am today. ''All the 89 late comers were given strict warning and were cautioned of stringent action on being late to office in future,'' said an official.
Official said that the process of surprise checking that has been initiated from today onwards from the head office of HPSEB would be continued across the state at all offices.
An official conceded on condition of anonymity that absenteeism and late coming by employees was common phenomena in government offices, but surprise checking would certainly help in improving the discipline in offices.
It may be mentioned that the BJP government after controlling the helm of affairs had reiterated that surprise inspections should be carried on frequently as this would keep the official machinery prepared for delivering the service to the people.
Chief Minister Prem Kumar Dhumal had already asserted that he himself and his ministerial colleagues would also be following the practice of surprise checking all over the state.
