Kanimozhi celebrates Pongal festival with prisoners

Chennai, Jan 17 (UNI) DMK Rajya Sabha member Kanimozhi today concluded the Chennai Sangamam by celebrating Pongal festival with the inmates of Puzhal Central Prison this morning.

A release by Tamizh Maiyam, which organised the Sangamam, a week-long cultural extravaganza, said Kanimozhi, the coordinator of the event, celebrated Kaanum Pongal with 3,000 prisoners, lodged in the prison.

As a gift, she distributed 20 colour television sets, an ECG set, new clothes, musical instruments and more than 1,000 books to the prisoners.

On behalf of Tamizh Maiyam, she also distributed choclates and toys to 16 newly born children in the prison. Cultural events were organised separately at the women's and men's cells, the release added.
