CPI(M) to mobilise opinion of farmers and workers for development
Kolkata, Jan 15 (UNI) Urging the party workers to fight for industrial development of West Bengal, the CPI(M) today called for mobilising the opinion of farmers and workers in favour of development.
Alleging that the united opposition was hatching a conspiracy over the issue of land acquisition for industry, the 22nd state conference of the party said an effort was being made to create anarchy through violence and terrorism to hinder the way of industrialisation.
'' The Opposition is involved in a deep conspiracy over the issue of land ... the ultra left and the extreme rightist parties--all are united with this objective...the role of a section of the so called intellecutal is also anti-people,'' the party said in a resolution.
Observing that generating employment was the aim of industrialisation, the party said the state was attracting massive investments in heavy industries, besides service and commercial sectors.
'' The state Government will have to take a logical stand on compensation for the acquired land, rehabilitation of the affected and alternative arrangements for bargadars and agricultural labourers while the party should unite the peasantry with the objective of industrialisation, '' the resolution said.
The four-day conference is being held amid a stiff political battle with the opposition parties, including the Trinamool Congress, Congress, SUCI and several Naxalite factions, in the wake of the outcry over the drive for setting up of industries in Nandigram and Singur.
Briefing reporters after the second day's conference, state Secretary Biman Basu said the delegates expressed the view that the state Government had the people's verdict to go ahead with the industrialisation programme, which was promised in the party's manifesto before the last Assembly elections.
He said discussion on the party's political and organisational reports was going on.
''After that we will discuss the success and weaknesses of the state Government over the past three years for appraisal and self-criticism, '' he said.
