Advocates block road demanding arrest of rapist

Bhubaneswar, Jan 15 (UNI) Members of the Bhubaneswar Bar Association today blocked the busy Bhubaneswar-Puri National Highway near Kalpana square demanding arrest of the criminals who tried to rape one of their colleagues last night.

Some criminals tried to rape the lady advocate near her village Balipatna when she was retuening home from the Bhubaneswar court.

But somehow the lady managed to escape from the clutches of the criminals.

After the incident her brother lodged a verbal complaint at the Balipatna police station.

The advocates of Bhubaneswar Bar Association blocked the road by burning tyres and sitting on the road since 12 this noon demanding arrest of the culprits.

Bar Association Secretary Gyan Ranjan Mohanty said the advocates would continue their blockade till 2000 hrs and had given an ultimatum to the Police to arrest the persons responsible for the crime within 24 hours.

He said if the police failed to arrest the miscreants they would chalk out their future course of action.

People suffered a lot as vehicular traffic around the area was seriously affected and adjacent roads were jammed for hours together following the road blockade by the advocates.

Heavy police arrangement was made to prevent any untoward incident.
