23rd intl training programme in legislative drafting inaugurated
New Delhi, Jan 15 (UNI) Senior Congress leader and former Union Minister Margaret Alva has said that while drafting legislation, officials concerned should ever keep in mind the hopes and aspirations of the people.
Ms Alva made this observation after inaugurating the 23rd International Training Programme in Legislative Drafting, being organised by the Bureau of Parliamentary Studies and Training (BPST) of the Lok Sabha Secretariat, here yesterday.
Ms Alva expressed confidence that the six week programme, being attended by 31 parliamentary and government officials from 21 countries, would assist the trainees in honouring their skills and in better equipping them to be effective draftspersons.
Former Secretary-General of the Lok Sabha, C K Jain is the course Director of the six-week programme, aimed at assisting the legislators of developing countries in drafting private members' bills.
Over 300 participants from across the world have so far attended this programme which is funded under the Indian Technical Economic Cooperation (ITEC)/Special Commonwealth Africa Assistance Plan (SCAPP) and the Colombo Plan.
