'West Bengal government a modern day Nero' : BJP
New Delhi, Jan 14 (UNI) The BJP today took the West Bengal government to task for its inability to douse the raging Bada Bazar fires even after three days and demanded a probe for the reasons behind the disaster which reduced Rs 1000 crore property to ashes.
BJP spokesman Prakash Javadekar said that the failure had brought shame to the country because the status of India had been reduced to that of a third world nation like Ethiopia which may have no infrastructure support to deal with a disaster. More than 3000 shops had been gutted taking the livelihood of 10,000 people, he said.
Here is a government which can't stop the fire in a market for days but holds a public rally to announce its dreams of hoisting its flag in Delhi. The market is stone's throw away from Ganga river and the Fire Services minister was doling out lame excuses like water shortage and wind valocity. Army was called in, but not allowed to work. There should be a thorough probe, he said adding that a government which can not put off the fire in time should stop acting like a modern day Nero.
