Minnesota Varsity students visits SDM Institute

Mysore, Jan 14 (UNI) A 16-member students team from University of Minnesota, USA, who are on a student exchange programme, today visited SDM Institute of Management Development, a highly regarded graduate business school here, to learn Indian business and culture and the functioning of Multinational companies.

The theme of the course was 'on a clear day you would see India everywhere-India drivers the world economy' The 20-day trip comprised Industry visits, besides series of lectures on various management subjects, interactions with the students in the Institute.

The team was led by Prof Rajiv Vaidyanthan, a Professor of Marketing and Alan C Roline, an associate Professor of Business Law. The students, apart from interacting with SDM students studied India's political and economic systems, culture, ethical and legal environments.

The course introduced students to a variety of business and employment opportunities in International business. This was one of the few occasions where a group of management students from University of Minnesota visited the Institute for such a comprehensive exchange programme.

Both the groups, including the faculty had discussion on the issue of off-shoring and the impact on both India and United States economy. They visited Infosys, Wipro, L and T and other companies in the city and shared their experiences with the professionals working in the companies.

Institute Director Ramesh Venktaeswaran, sharing his vision said the world recongises India, its growing economy and its contribution to the world. The visit of the students would help them to understand the different dimensions of our economy.

Speaking to mediapersons, Prof Rajiv Vaidyanathan said management practices in India made rapid strides in recent years and Indian companies were capable of being world class competitors. This type of exchange programme between the Management Institutions would boost the relationsships in terms of both education and economical aspect of the two countries.

Professor C Roline said the experience in India has been eye opening. The students have benefited from experiencing the culture and the business environment in this country. It was lot easier to understand a country by experiencing it rather then reading about it, he added.
