Lawyer gets three years jail term for bigamy
Fatehabad, Jan 14 (UNI) A lower court today sentenced a Delhi High Court lawyer to three years imprisonment and a fine of Rs 15,000 for marrying again during the life time of his first wife.
The Chief Judicial Magistrate, Lal Chand, while pronouncing the judgement held Surender Singh, a resident of Dabri village in tehsil Bhadra of Rajasthan, guilty of marrying again without divorcing his first wife, Krishana of Pilimandori village in this district, whom he married in 1982.
Krishana's father Ram Parshad had alleged in his complaint that he had given sufficient dowry to Surender, including Rs 1.5 lakhs in cash but Surender allegedly started harassing Krishana for more dowry and threw her out of his house in the year 1986 after beating her mercilessly.
The police had booked the lawyer under sections 406, 498-A, 494, 414 and 109 of the IPC.
