Farmer commits suicide in Nashik district
{image-vidarbha farmers sucidal_14012008.jpg news.oneindia.in}Nashik, Jan 14: A farmer from Umbarkhad cillage in Niphad taluka of this district, who had set himself afire on January 11, has succumbed to his injuries at the district civil hospital, police said. Vitthal Dhondiram Athre had set himself afire due to alleged frustration over crop failure and indebtedness. He had taken a total loan of Rs 1.57 lakh from the Vividh Kanyakari Society and others, according to the police.
Athre was unable to repay the loan because of the repeated failure of his crops. He was immediately rushed to a private hospital on January 11 after he burnt himself. Later, Athre was shifted to the Nashik district civil hospital. He succumbed to his burn injuries last night, the police said. Meanwhile, the Shiv Sena today organised a ''morcha'' to condemn circumstances that forced the farmer to commit suicide.
