Contraband dealer gets ten-year jail sentence

Shimla, Jan 14 (UNI) A lower court has today sentenced Radhu Ram for rigorous imprisonment for ten years under the Narcotics Drugs and Psychotropic Substance (NDPS) Act.

As per the judgement of district (Kinnaur) session and special judge at Rampur, the convict has been slapped a fine of Rs 10 lakh in addition to the jail term and in default of payment the convict will have to further undergo simple imprisonment for six months.

According to District Attorney, Shanti Swaroop said that according to the prosecution case, the police party while on surveillance on September 28, 2005 had nabbed the convict at Bandal area in Nirmand in Kullu district.

The police on search had recovered 7 kg Charas from the bag that the accused was carrying.

Session and special judge Ravinder Prakash rejected the plea of the convict for taking a lenient view as he was sixty years of age.
