GSM subscriber base touches 171 mn

New Delhi, Jan 13: With an addition of 5.7 million subscribers in December 2007, the GSM customer base in the country has reached 171.88 million.

Bharti Airtel stood at the top with a market share of 32.09 per cent, followed by Vodafone Essar at 23.19 per cent and Idea Cellular Ltd at 12.25 per cent. Bharti Airtel added 2.2 million subscribers during the month and touched a total user base of 55.16 million, whereas Vodafone Essar subsriber base increased by 1.3 million to touch 39.86 million at the end of month.

State-run telecom major BSNL total subscriber base reached 32.71 million with addition of 7.67 lakh customers during the month.

Aditya Birla promoted Idea Cellular has a total subscriber base of 21.05 million, with net addition of 8.31 lakh during December.

State-own MTNL added 65,154 connections during December last year to touch 2.95 million subscriber base.
