Traffic on Kashmir highway disrupted for several hours due to jam

Srinagar, Jan 12 (UNI) Traffic on the 300-km Srinagar-Jammu national highway was disrupted for several hours due to a traffic jam, official sources said.

They said almost all the vehicles which left Srinagar this morning were stopped near the Jawahar Tunnel for about five hours due to traffic mismanagement.

A number of passengers told UNI by telephone from Jawahar Tunnel that the vehicles were stopped on the side of the tunnel and there was total confusion and chaos.

They said passengers including women and children had to wait in vehicles in severe cold.

The passengers criticised the traffic authorities for allowing two-way traffic after the highway remained closed for three days due to heavy snowfall and landslides.

''We just crossed the Jawahar tunnel at 1900 hours though we reached there at 1300 hours'', a woman passenger said.
