Coimbatore bound flights delay, land in Chennai due to bad weather

Chennai, Jan 12 (UNI) Several flights bound for Coimbatore were today delayed due to foggy conditions and bad weather in the textile city.

Airport sources said, an Air Deccan flight from Chennai to Coimbatore, with 87 passengers on board, was delayed by 105 minutes.

Soon after the aircraft moved and entered the runway, the air traffic control authorities got information of bad weather there and the flight was brought back to the tarmac.

After a delay of 105 minutes and after receipt of information that the visibility had improved, the flight took off for Coimbatore.

Similarly, a Mumbai-Coimbatore Spice Jet flight with 120 passengers on board, landed in Chennai this morning due to heavy fog and poor visibility at the Coimbatore airport.

Airport sources said the flight was scheduled to land at Coimbatore airport at 0720 hrs. Since a thick blanket of fog had covered the airport there, the flight landed here.

The flight later left for Coimbatore at around 0900 hrs after the sky cleared, the sources added.

Several Coimbatore-bound flights were also delayed due to the bad weather.
