UBI branches closed for fourth consecutive day in Manipur
Imphal, Jan 11 (UNI) All The branches of the United Bank of India (UBI) today remained closed for the fourth consecutive day in Manipur following militant threats.
UBI officials said here today that the employees of the Manipur-based UBI, under the Banner of the United Forum of Banks' Union, have decided to close all the 15 branches of the bank from January 8 onwards as a militant group had served extortion demands on the bank.
Meanwhile, senior UBI officials held meetings to discuss the matter and expressed concern over the developments.
The officials had also appealed to the outlawed organisations to withdraw their monetary demands.
The people were facing hardships due to the closure of the banks.
The United Forum of Banks Union again appealed to the outlawed organisations to withdraw their demand in the interest of the general public and the bank's customers in particular.
The forum also appealed to other banks' fraternal organisations to support the cause and regretted the inconvenience caused to the bank's customers.
