Punjab to celebrate Lohri of abandoned girl child

Phagwara, Jan 11: Punjab Government will celeberate 'Lohri' functions of infants girls abandoned by their parents, Punjab Women and Child Development Minister Swarana Ram said here.

While talking with newspersons here yesterday, Mr Swarna Ram said an impressive function would be held in Red Cross Bhawan Jalandhar on the occasion. Stating that one such infant was found near Mohali and one in Banga in recent days, he said that state government will bear all expenditures of these girls.

He also gave details of some more projects which would soon be initiated by the state government to 'rehabilitate' these infants girls.

He also urged the social organisations to come forward to launch a struggle against social evils like female foeticide and appealed to people to adopt these abandoned infants.
