One arrested under Wildlife Act, falcons recovered

New Delhi, Jan 11 (UNI) Police today said it had arrested a man under the Wildlife Protection Act and recovered two falcons from his possession.

Acting on a tip, a police team along with members of an NGO ''People for Animals' arrested one Azim Khan near the Sunehri Masjid, New Daryaganj road yesterday and seized a cloth bag from him. The bag contained a falcon and the carcass of another one.

The birds were identified as large falcons which come under the category of protected species in Schedule one of the Wildlife Protection Act, 1972.

During interrogation, Khan confessed that he had bought the falcons from the Jama Masjid area recently and had gone back to return them as the female falcon was killed by the male one.
