NALCO to set up Smelter plant in Indonesia
Bhubaneswar, Jan 11 (UNI) The National Aluminium Company Limited (NALCO), a leading Public sector undertakings of the country, today signed an MoU with the Indonesian government to set up a five lakh ton Smelter Plant and a 1250 MW Captive Power Plant.
A NALCO release here today said the MoU was signed in Jakarta between Company's Director(Finance) B L Bagra and South Sumatra Province Vice-Governor H Mahyuddin in the presence of Mines Secretary J P Singh and Joint Secretary Mines V K Thakral.
As per the MoU, NALCO would invest around 3.4 billion US dollars in the Greenfield project. The proposed plants would be set up in two phases.
In the first phase, a 2.5-lakh ton capacity Smelter plant and a 750 MW Power plant would be set up. Besides Indonesia, NALCO was exploring the possibilities of setting up plants in Iran, Saudi Arabia and South Africa, the sources said.
