Minister calls for partnership to improve healthcare

Thiruvananthapuram, Jan 11 (UNI) Kerala Health Minister P K Sreemati today called for a partnership between Local Self Governments and Health Department to improve the public health system and inequities in healthcare.

Inaugurating a National conference on Emerging issues in Public Health, she indentified several initiatives taken under the NRHM programme like campaign for total sanitation with community participation and setting up of a separate health university to achieve this.

The Minister lauded the efforts of the Central Government to combat the twin problems of communicable and non-communicable diseases through NRHM.

She called for a political commitment to enhance the allocation on health for Kerala to meet the threat posed by the re-emergence of deseases like Dengue, Chikungunya and Leptospirosis.

The inaugural function of the conference organised by the Achuthamenon Centre, Sree Chitra Thirunal Institute for Medical Sciences and Technology in Thiruvananthapuram, was presided over by Director of the Institute Prof K Mohandas.
