Fellowships for minority community students
Chandigarh, Jan 11 (UNI) The Haryana government has decided to award the scholarship to the meritorious students belonging to economically weaker sections of minority communities to enable them to pursue higher education from class 11th upto PhD and technical or vocational courses of class XI and XII level for enhancing their employability.
Haryana Social Justice and Empowerment Minister Kartar Devi said the Post-Matric scholarship would be given to the students belonging to minority communities, pursuing studies from Class 11th to PhD from Government, recognised private school, college and institute including technical and vocational courses of 11th and 12th level in industrial training.
Besides, institutes or industrial training centres affiliated with the National Council for Vocational Training would also be covered under the scheme.
She said those students who have secured not less than 50 per cent marks in the previous final examination would be eligible for the scholarship while the students from BPL families, having the lowest income should be given preference in the ascending order.
The Minister said to avail the benefit of this scheme, the annual income, from all sources, of the student's parents or guardians should not exceed Rs two lakh.
She said 30 per cent of scholarships would be earmarked for girl students. In case girls students were not available then the scholarships earmarked for them would be awarded to eligible boy students, she added.
