Essential services restored in snow-hit Kupwara in Kashmir

Jammu, Jan 10 (UNI) Essential services and commodities have been restored in the snow-hit Kupwara district of Kashmir, State Consumer Affairs and Public Distribution Minister Taj Mohi-ud-Din said today.

''Almost all the drinking water installations are presently functioning properly. The power supply to Kupwara and Handwara towns has been restored and in other areas would be restored today,'' the Minister informed the Legislative Assembly.

He said there was no scarcity of foodgrains in the district.

''Over 10,000 quintals of rice have also been dispatched today to various areas of the district from Srinagar,'' he asserted.

The Minister further disclosed that five snow clearance machines had been pressed into service in Kupwara district to clear the roads.

''So far all the major roads connecting the towns have been cleared and the clearance of link roads is going on,'' Mr Mohi-ud-Din added.
