New Delhi, Jan 9 (UNI) Blurring the lines between a hatchback and a traditional sedan, Tata Motors today unveiled its sub four metre sedan, the 'Tata Indigo CS'.

''This is the first sub four metre sedan in the world and the beauty of the vehicle is that it has the compactness of the hatch, same interior space as the current Indigo, coupled with the benefits of a hatch in a city traffic,'' said Tata Motors Vice President (Commercial) S Krishnan.

Mr Krishnan said the trunk space of 400 litres is far beyond what you get in a hatch and the company intends to position the vehicle as a first car for young professionals.

The company claims that clever and efficient design has made it possible to encapsulate this entire package within the four metre length.

The Indigo CS sports a stylish new tail light cluster in the rear embedded in a smart new rear profile completed with a new, trimmer rear bumper.

The front of the car has also been visually differentiated with a new front grille and new headlamps.

''The car gets excise benefits and the pricing will be announced in the middle of this month when the car hits the showroom. It comes with a 1.4 litre diesel and petrol engine it qualifies for the excise duty norms,'' Mr Krishnan said.

The new car is available in both petrol and diesel variants.

The petrol variant is equipped with a multi-point fuel injection engine powered by a 32-bit microprocessor and churns out a maximum power of 65PS @ 5200 rpm.

The diesel variant comes with the turbo-charged intercooler engine that generates 70PS @ 4500 rpm. The petrol variants will have beige interiors, while the diesel variants will have black interiors.

The Indigo CS will be available in two trim levels--a basic AC model and an AC power steering model. It will be made available in an Scarlet Red colour, apart from the existing range of Indigo shades.

''The car is about blurring lines between traditional hatch and a sedan. Normally you get a hatch in less than four meters and we have made a sedan out of it,'' Mr Krishnan added.

He informed that the existing Indigo range will continues and the company has reasonable growth expectation from the launch.

Presently, Tata sell 2400-2500 Indigo's in a month.
