First unit of Yamunanagar thermal plant to be ready by Jan 15

Yamunanagar, Jan 9 (UNI) The first unit of the Deenbandhu Chottu Ram thermal plant here will start commercial production of electricity from January 15.

Prof Virender Singh, political advisor to Haryana Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda, announced this here today after inspecting the ongoing work at the thermal plant.

He said the second unit of 300 MW of the plant would start production by March. The plant of Haryana Power Generation Corporation Limited is being erected by Reliance Energy limited.

Mr Singh criticised rebel Congress leader and former Chief Minister Bhajan Lal for not starting the work on the plant which was inaugurated during his tenure about 15 years ago.

''When the foundation stone of the plant was laid during the tenure of Mr Bhajan Lal, the cost of the project was only Rs 400 crore which later increased to Rs 2,400 crore,'' said the political advisor.
