Two bogies of goods train derailed at Ambala Cantt

Ambala, Jan 8 (UNI) Two bogies of a goods train were derailed leading to blockade of railway traffic at the Ambala Cantonment Railway station today. Several express and passenger trains were held up and were late of their scheduled time.

The train loaded with containers was on its way to Dhandari Kalan (Punjab) from Tughalkabad. On reaching Ambala Cantonment railway station, it was passed through the railway yard where two bogies were derailed. The bogies were dragged to some distance which damaged the sleepers on track. However, there was no loss of human life or property.

On receiving the information, a team of high officials reached the spot to assess the damage and also restore the traffic.

The station manager R N Meena said the cause of derailment was not known immediately. He said that some of the derailed bogies were held up at the station. Over 300 sleepers were damaged in the accident. An enquiry had been ordered to know the cause of incident.

He said that erring officials would be dealt with sternly according to rail manual, Mr Meena added.

He said that the track was cleared and the derailed bogies were put on the line. A few days back, similar situation was created when the rail traffic was badly affected on derailment of an engine at the yard.
