MIS stresses need for scientific use of water

Mysore, Jan 8(UNI) Speakers at a one-day workshop on Micro irrigation systems stressed the need for utilising water scientifically by all including agriculture and horticulture in the state.

The workshop was organised by the Micro Irrigation Society of India, department of Horticulture, and University of Agricultural Sciences, Bangalore.

Inaugurating the workshop, Deputy Commissioner of Mysore Channappagowda said that the workshop assumed importance in the backdrop of rapid dip in the water table in the state.

"There was necessary to chalkout plans for the irrigation system which would give more yeildsand called upon the experts in the field to enlighten the farmers on this aspect," he said.

Micro Irrigation Society of India Chairman M S Muthyunjaya said that food crops could be grown by using drip irrigation and it was important to train officials in horticulture department and dealers in implementing it.
