CEC Gopalaswami and his team arrives in K'taka
Bangalore, Jan 8 (UNI) Chief Election Commissioner N Gopalaswami arrived here today on a three-day visit to hold meetings with state election commission on finalisation of electoral rolls for the forthcoming elections.
The CEC accompanied by his two deputies Naveen Chawla and Dr Qureshi arrived in the city from Delhi tonight.
The state election commission had delayed the finalisation of draft rolls which had concerned the CEC and he would hold a series of meetings tomorrow and day after, to ensure early finalisation of the voter's list.
Chief Electoral Officer R Ramaseshan however said that the draft of the latest voter's list would be announced on January 10 as announced earlier.
Mid-term elections to Karnataka assembly is expected to be held either in the month of April or May.
Meanwhile, different political party leaders have sought meeting with the CEC and putforth their views on holding mid-term elections in the state.
Janata Dal (Secular) National President and former Prime Minister H D Deve Gowda, who met Governor Rameshwar Thakur has yesterday urged holding elections before May.
Congress, on the other hand, had raised its reservation over electoral roles, alleging that the list contained thousands of names of those who have either died or non existent. Many discrepancies had been unearthed in the updated voter's list and extra names should be removed.
