Media getting glamourised: Tarun Tejpal
Jaipur, Jan 7 (UNI) Chief Editor of Tehlka.Com Tarun Tejpal has said media is getting ''glamourised'' and in the process people-centric issues get sidelined.
Speaking at the Jhabarmal Sharma memorial lecture organised here by the Makhanlal Chaturvedi National University of Journalism and Communication and Rajasthan Patrika here yesterday, he said media's loyalty should lie with the poor and the exploited section of society and it should use its strenghth to expose the misuse of power and money.
He said while young journalists were ready to take on the challenges, their seniors should play the role of keeping them in the realm of propriety.
About sting operations, he said he had tried to expose many wrongdoings through them and till now the efforts to reign in the media by vested interests have yet not been successful.
On rural reporting, he said the concept of rural bureaus had been done away with even as 70 per cent of the population still lived there.
Makhanlal Chaturvedi University vice-chancellor Achutanand Mishra and Rajasthan Human Rights Commission chairman NK Jain and Chief Editor of Rajasthan Patrika Gulab Kothari also spoke on the occasion.
